Galaxy Backbone launches digital portal to streamline access to gov’t services

Galaxy Backbone (GBB), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has unveiled the Government Service Portal (GSP), a new digital platform designed to provide Nigerians with easier access to public services.

The portal, accessible via services.gov.ng, was officially introduced during a soft launch held at the Galaxy Backbone National Shared Services Centre (NSSC) headquarters in Abuja. The event attracted senior government officials, development partners, technology stakeholders and members of the media.

The Government Service Portal serves as a central online platform where citizens, businesses and government institutions can access a wide range of digital services offered by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). By bringing these services together under one platform, the initiative is expected to simplify interactions with government, improve service delivery and enhance the overall user experience.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the portal as a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. He said the initiative demonstrates the Federal Government’s resolve to build a more transparent, efficient and citizen-focused public service.

According to Adeyanju, the platform goes beyond being a conventional website, serving instead as the foundation of a unified digital gateway that places the needs of citizens and businesses at the heart of government service delivery.

He explained that the soft launch marks the beginning of the platform’s implementation, providing an opportunity to onboard pioneer MDAs, receive user feedback, improve system integration and fine-tune the platform before its nationwide rollout.

The event was attended by representatives of key stakeholder organisations, including Deputy Director of KOICA Nigeria, Mr. Ki Yun Baik; the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, represented by the Director of e-Government, Mr. Joseph Bareiye; the Permanent Secretary, State House, represented by the Head of ICT, Mr. Oguntuyi Olusegun; and the Executive Director, Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone, Olumbe Akinkugbe.

Galaxy Backbone noted that the portal supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aligns with Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) strategy. The platform complements existing government investments in digital identity, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and digital governance by providing a unified access point for public services.

The organisation said the initiative is expected to improve transparency, strengthen public service delivery, boost operational efficiency and enhance public confidence in government institutions.

Galaxy Backbone also reaffirmed its commitment to working with Ministries, Departments and Agencies to integrate their digital services into the portal, stressing that sustained collaboration will be essential to building an interoperable and inclusive digital ecosystem that delivers value to all Nigerians.

When fully implemented, the Government Service Portal is expected to become Nigeria’s primary online gateway for public services, enabling citizens and businesses to access government services more conveniently, efficiently and securely.
