By Ayodeji Akinyele

Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc (FMN) has named Akbar Ali Shah as its new managing director, putting a seasoned consumer goods executive at the helm of one of the country’s biggest food and agro-allied businesses.

The company, whose products include flour, pasta, noodles, sugar, and animal feeds, is also among West Africa’s leading agro-allied groups. Shah brings more than 20 years of experience in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, and the group expects him to drive its next phase of growth.

In his new role, he is expected to strengthen FMN’s grain milling operations, raise productivity in its value-added food processing business, and make its agricultural supply chain run more smoothly.

Shah joins from Reckitt, where he held several leadership positions. He served as general manager for the company’s Sub-Saharan Africa cluster and as chief executive officer of Reckitt Nigeria.
