MTN Foundation opens 2026 scholarship applications, expands support to medical students

The MTN Foundation has commenced applications for its 2026 Scholarship Programmes, reinforcing its focus on education and youth empowerment across Nigeria.

For this cycle, the initiative covers the Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) and the Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS), while introducing a dedicated category for medical students. Previously grouped under STEM-focused support, the new medical scholarship stream is designed to provide more specialised funding for outstanding students in public universities and teaching hospitals.

Amid rising education costs and shifting economic conditions, the Foundation will award 400 scholarships this year, including 100 slots reserved for medical students. Each beneficiary will receive ₦300,000 annually to cover tuition, study materials, and basic living expenses, allowing them to concentrate on their academic work.

Speaking on the development, the Foundation’s Executive Director, Odunayo Sanya, noted that the programme reflects a sustained commitment to supporting Nigerian youths with the tools needed to succeed globally. She emphasised that financial challenges should not prevent capable students from achieving academic excellence.

Eligibility for the 2026 programme includes 300-level students studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses, 400-level medical students, and visually impaired students in 200 and 300 levels across public tertiary institutions.

The scholarship is renewable until graduation, provided recipients maintain the required academic standards—a minimum CGPA of 3.5 for STS beneficiaries and 2.5 for SBS beneficiaries.

Beyond financial aid, beneficiaries will also participate in mentorship programmes, technical training, and employability workshops under the Foundation’s Skill Up initiative, aimed at preparing them for opportunities in a fast-evolving global economy.

Now in its 15th year, the scholarship scheme remains a flagship intervention of the MTN Foundation, having supported thousands of students nationwide. The initiative continues to bridge financial gaps in education while contributing to the country’s broader socio-economic growth.

Applications are currently open and will close on May 31, 2026. Interested candidates can submit their entries via the Foundation’s official scholarship portal.
