Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Group, has been announced as the Chairman of the 2025 SUPERNEWS Nigeria Annual Conference, scheduled for June 19, 2025. The event will take place at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, beginning at 10:00 AM.
Themed “Power of AI: Enhancing Efficiency and Customer Satisfaction for a Better Financial Services Experience,” the conference will feature Mr. Johnson Chukwu, Managing Director of Cowry Asset Management Limited, as the keynote speaker.
Distinguished guests at the event will include Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, Commissioner for Insurance at the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), and Mrs. Omolola Oloworaran, Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
Alhaji Kwairanga is a seasoned investment expert with nearly 20 years of leadership experience across the capital market, banking, and real sector. He holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in business administration, corporate governance, and finance, and has further honed his expertise through programs at prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School, and the New York Institute of Finance.
He is a certified member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) and the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria, as well as a member of the Abuja Commodities & Securities Exchange. Over the course of his career, he has served as Managing Director of a leading stockbroking firm and held directorship roles in several major companies.
Currently, Alhaji Kwairanga chairs Ashaka Cement PLC, a publicly listed cement producer in Nigeria’s North East, where he has overseen substantial growth and improved corporate responsibility, boosting revenue generation for Gombe State and other local governments through consistent tax and statutory payments. He also serves as Group Managing Director/CEO of Finmal Finance Services Ltd, Director at Jaiz Bank PLC and Central Securities Clearing System PLC, Chairman of Penman PFA Ltd, and President of the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria. Additionally, he is a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Industrial Relations.
Speaking on the choice of Alhaji Kwairanga as Chairman, Ngozi Onyeakusi, Publisher of SUPERNEWS Nigeria and convener of the conference, highlighted his extensive expertise and leadership in the financial services industry.
The conference will also feature a panel session with notable figures such as Mrs. Adeolu Adewumi-Zer, Founder/CEO of ZER Consulting Africa; Mrs. Thaibat Adeniran, former Managing Director of Hilal Takaful Insurance Limited; Dr. Uju Ogubunka, National President of the Bank Customers Association of Nigeria (BCAN); and Mr. Ayokunle Olubunmi, Head of Financial Institutions Ratings at Augusto & Co.

On the conference theme, Onyeakusi emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing Nigeria’s financial services landscape. Analysts project the global business value generated by AI will rise from $1.2 trillion in 2018 to $3.9 trillion by 2022, underlining its significant impact.
Experts believe AI can drive financial inclusion by making services more accessible and affordable for the wider population, improving customer experiences, and lowering operational costs. The conference aims to deepen participants’ understanding of AI’s role in delivering banking, pension, insurance, and capital market services more efficiently, affordably, and conveniently.
