Globacom acquires additional spectrum
Globacom has announced major upgrades to its network infrastructure following the acquisition of additional spectrum resources aimed at delivering faster speeds, wider coverage, and an enhanced user experience across Nigeria.
The improvements, which took effect at the start of the month, form part of the company’s broader strategy to build a next-generation telecommunications network capable of supporting Nigeria’s rapidly advancing digital landscape.
According to Globacom, the expanded spectrum capacity has significantly boosted broadband performance nationwide, enabling the network to handle larger volumes of data more efficiently. Customers can now enjoy smoother video streaming, quicker downloads, improved uploads, and clearer voice services.
In addition to spectrum expansion, the telecom operator revealed that it is rolling out extensive physical infrastructure. Hundreds of new sites are currently being built across various states, while existing LTE locations—numbering in the thousands—are being upgraded to meet rising demand.
The company added that even more sites will be deployed within the next year to further extend broadband access and strengthen connectivity in urban centres, semi-urban areas, and rural communities.
A senior company representative noted:
“These new capacities are not just isolated upgrades—they signal a nationwide overhaul. Nigerians will notice stronger coverage, higher data speeds, and more consistent service wherever they live, work, or travel.”
Globacom also announced the enhancement of its fibre-optic backbone along major national routes to support the newly expanded capacity. This includes upgrades to backhaul infrastructure through advanced microwave systems and core network optimization, all aimed at eliminating congestion and improving service stability.
To complement these technical developments, the company is adopting environmentally friendly hybrid battery systems across several sites. This approach reduces dependency on diesel generators while boosting network reliability and operational efficiency.
Reaffirming its customer-first focus, another Globacom official stated:
“Our commitment remains unchanged—premium connectivity at accessible prices. Every Nigerian deserves fast, dependable, and affordable communications, and this network upgrade is designed to deliver exactly that.”
Globacom assured customers that they will continue to benefit from competitive data and voice rates, loyalty rewards, tailored packages for youths and SMEs, and unique entertainment content via GloTV.
The telecom operator encouraged subscribers and new users to explore the improved service capabilities, noting that the upgraded network will enhance learning, business operations, entertainment, online commerce, and digital innovation across the country.
With expanded spectrum, wider coverage, increased speeds, and major congestion relief efforts, Globacom affirmed that these developments mark the beginning of a more advanced and reliable digital experience for Nigerians.
