Dentsu Nigeria emerges sole winner as NEMCEA 2026 spotlights payment discipline
Dentsu Nigeria has emerged as the sole recipient of the ARCON Award for Excellence in Payment Discipline at the 2026 Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA), in a recognition that places renewed attention on financial responsibility within Nigeria’s advertising and media value chain.
The award, presented by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) in partnership with the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN), recognises organisations that demonstrate consistency, transparency and responsibility in meeting their financial commitments to industry partners.
Dentsu Nigeria, through MediaFuse-Dentsu and its affiliated entities, was adjudged to have demonstrated a comparatively strong culture of settling financial obligations, following an industry assessment that incorporated research and voting among relevant stakeholders.
The recognition comes at a time when payment cycles and financial relationships between media agencies, media owners and other service providers have become increasingly important to the sustainability of Nigeria’s advertising ecosystem.
According to the Project Director of NEMCEA 2026, Alayande Stephen T., the award followed a voting process involving chief executives, EMCOAN members and other stakeholders engaged in media buying and planning.
He said the jury specifically sought to identify the media agency with the strongest culture and structure for prompt payment.
Alayande explained that the assessment focused on four major areas: automated and transparent financial workflows, prompt settlement of obligations, low default or overdue rates, and compliance with contractual payment terms.
On automated and transparent workflows, he said the assessment considered agencies that use digital financial systems and management platforms to monitor invoices, approvals and remittances, thereby reducing delays and the need for personal intervention in payment processes.
The organisers also examined agencies’ ability to meet agreed payment schedules across different media categories, including broadcast, print, digital and outdoor advertising.
Although Alayande acknowledged that there remains room for improvement across the industry, he said MediaFuse-Dentsu performed strongly compared with other agencies assessed.
The assessment further considered the extent to which agencies maintained low levels of outstanding obligations and adhered to credit and billing arrangements contained in agreements with vendors and media partners.
The award was presented during NEMCEA 2026, which took place in Lagos from September 2 to 3, bringing together stakeholders from television, radio, digital and other segments of Nigeria’s electronic media industry.
Dentsu Nigeria’s Group Financial Controller, Enahoro Osemoboh, received the award on behalf of the agency.
Osemoboh said payment discipline is integrated into the company’s broader financial management system, covering client invoicing, credit management, reconciliation and vendor settlement.
He disclosed that approximately 90 per cent of the company’s invoices are settled within agreed timelines, while payments to vendors are processed within three working days after the corresponding client credits are received.
According to him, the agency has recorded improvements in payment performance and operational efficiency as a result of stronger financial controls and internal processes.
He added that the system covers a broad network of partners, including media owners, production companies, influencers, content creators, out-of-home advertising operators, digital platforms and event suppliers.
The agency attributed the improvement to tighter financial controls, stronger internal procedures and regular reviews aimed at improving accountability and execution.
Reacting to the award, Dentsu Nigeria’s Group Executive Chairman and CEO, Emeka Chris Okeke, said the recognition was an indication of the confidence that business partners place in the agency.
He noted that responsible payment goes beyond the settlement of invoices, arguing that it plays a role in building trust and sustaining long-term relationships across the industry.
For Dentsu Nigeria, the recognition also highlights the wider economic impact of payment practices in the creative and advertising sector.
When media agencies settle obligations promptly, media owners, production companies, creators, suppliers and smaller businesses are better positioned to manage cash flow, maintain operations and invest in new opportunities.
The award therefore comes against the backdrop of increasing industry efforts to strengthen commercial relationships and improve financial sustainability across Nigeria’s advertising-media ecosystem.
ARCON has in recent times placed greater emphasis on payment timelines and financial discipline as part of efforts to improve the stability of the sector. The issue has become particularly significant for businesses that depend on predictable cash flow to deliver services and sustain employment.
Dentsu Nigeria’s recognition at NEMCEA 2026 consequently goes beyond an individual corporate award. It underscores the growing importance of payment discipline as a measure of professionalism and responsible business conduct in the advertising industry.
For the agency, the recognition reinforces its position that trust between advertisers, agencies, media owners, creators and suppliers is built not only through the quality of work delivered, but also through consistency in meeting financial commitments.
