All set for Wema Bank’s 2026 IWD event on March 4

Preparations have been concluded for Wema Bank’s 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) Grand Event slated for March 4, as the financial institution intensifies its push for gender inclusion and women’s empowerment.

The bank, noted for its innovation drive and the launch of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT by Wema, said the upcoming event will be held under the theme “When Women Gain, We Grow,” drawing inspiration from the global IWD focus on “Give To Gain.” Organisers explained that the programme will emphasise the value of investing in women and the broader social and economic benefits that come with sustained support for female advancement.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Moruf Oseni, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to meaningful gender inclusion. He noted that the institution has consistently prioritised initiatives that create opportunities for women, describing such efforts as essential to building a more balanced and prosperous society.

Oseni pointed to the bank’s women-focused initiative, SARA by Wema, launched in 2019, as part of Wema Bank’s broader strategy to promote equality and support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 on gender equality. According to him, the bank’s long-standing interventions in funding access, mentorship, and business development have shown the transformative impact of investing in women.

The 2026 celebration is expected to attract leading female professionals, entrepreneurs, and advocates from diverse sectors alongside everyday women navigating social and economic challenges. The event will provide opportunities for networking, mentorship, and shared learning while spotlighting stories of resilience and success.

Among the highlights lined up are the SARA Gives to Empower Her Award, which will offer grants to women making notable community impact; the He For She Award recognising male employees who champion women’s progress; the Wema Knight Gives outreach initiative aimed at supporting women nationwide; and the unveiling of the Wema Bank Girl Child Journal, a collection of real-life guidance from dozens of contributors.

Participants will be able to join the event physically or virtually through the bank’s official platform, as Wema Bank looks forward to hosting an engaging celebration that underscores the importance of supporting women and building inclusive growth across society.
