NIPR Lagos to examine PR strategy and ethics at August Clinic through film-based learning

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos Chapter, will take a unique approach to professional development at its August Monthly PR Clinic by using a film screening to spark conversations on communication strategy, ethics and leadership.

Scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Eko FM Multipurpose Hall in Ikeja, the session replaces the conventional lecture format with a cinematic learning experience. Participants will watch a carefully selected film before taking part in an interactive discussion that connects its themes to real-life public relations practice.

According to the organisers, the initiative is designed to help communication professionals better understand how strategic messaging influences public perception, shapes decision-making and raises ethical questions in today’s media landscape.

They described the event as an engaging platform that blends professional learning, networking and thoughtful reflection in a relaxed environment.

The featured film was chosen for its relevance to contemporary public relations challenges. It explores issues such as strategic positioning, message framing, crisis communication, lobbying, media engagement, agenda setting and the ethical limits of persuasive communication.

Organisers said the post-screening discussion will encourage participants to assess how communication strategies are developed, implemented and received, while identifying practical lessons that can strengthen their day-to-day professional practice.

Among the discussion topics are strategic positioning and message framing, with emphasis on how organisations shape narratives to influence stakeholder perception. The session will also examine the growing role of storytelling in shaping public opinion at a time when information travels rapidly across multiple communication platforms.

Another key area of focus will be crisis communication and reputation management, reflecting the increasing need for organisations to respond effectively during periods of uncertainty and heightened public scrutiny.

The NIPR Lagos Chapter said the clinic is open to practitioners across all levels of experience.

“Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or an emerging professional, this promises to be an engaging and insightful learning experience,” the organisers stated.

They added that the programme extends beyond a film screening, offering participants an opportunity to explore practical public relations lessons, communication strategies, ethical considerations and leadership insights through an interactive and engaging format.
