AREWA24 champions environmental action as CSR Drive

In a bold step reflecting its commitment to social impact and environmental stewardship, AREWA24—West Africa’s premier Hausa-language entertainment and lifestyle television network—recently launched a community-focused CSR activity in Kano State, inspired by its new programme Climate Change Africa.

Themed around climate education, youth involvement, and sustainable practices, the initiative saw the entire AREWA24 team, including CEO Celestine Umeibe, converge at Gadan Lado Bridge in Kano to clean the area, unclog drainage systems, and engage with residents on the importance of a hygienic and eco-friendly environment.

Speaking at the event, Umeibe highlighted the network’s dedication to promoting environmental responsibility through its media platforms. “We believe in using storytelling not just to entertain, but to inspire behavioural change,” he said. “As we enter the rainy season, it is crucial that communities understand their role in preserving the environment. Today, we are not just reporting—we are participating and leading by example.”

Prominent Kannywood actor and Special Adviser to the Kano State Government on Youth and Sports Development, Sani Danja, applauded the initiative. He called on young people to embrace not only environmental cleanliness but personal hygiene as well, describing the programme as “a model worth replicating.”

The community engagement aimed to shed light on the consequences of environmental neglect, such as flooding and health hazards, often caused by blocked drainage and poor sanitation. By combining hands-on community work with the reach of its new climate series, AREWA24 continues to integrate purposeful storytelling with real-world impact.

Local leaders and residents joined the cleanup, creating a spirited display of civic responsibility and environmental awareness. The initiative is part of a broader campaign anchored by Climate Change Africa, a show that delves into Africa’s environmental challenges while promoting practical solutions for sustainable living.

Climate Change Africa airs every Saturday at 7 p.m. WAT on AREWA24, furthering the network’s mission to blend entertainment with meaningful social advocacy.
