A tale of hope and healing: Foundation delivers legacy projects at Lagos hospitals
On a bright Sunday morning in Lagos, the Heal the World Foundation and Apostle Tola Olukilede Foundation embarked on a mission to rewrite the stories of healing and hope in two prominent hospitals—Gbagada General Hospital and Orile Agege General Hospital.
The air buzzed with gratitude as the team unveiled the transformation of Gbagada General Hospital’s entire second floor. Dr. Olusegun Joseph, the hospital’s MD/CEO, marveled at the scope of the renovation, a leap from individual rooms to an entire floor. “They didn’t just renovate a space; they revitalized the Psychiatry Clinic, the ENT Clinic, and even the Seminar Room, which also serves as a counseling space for patient relatives,” he shared. Dr. Joseph noted the profound impact of the Psychiatry Clinic’s refurbishment: “In mental health, environment plays a huge role. A clean and calming space can achieve 50% of the healing process.”
The day’s special guest, MD of Toyota Nigeria Limited, reflected on the remarkable achievements of Apostle Tola Olukilede, whose philanthropic journey began in humble circumstances. “Dr. Olukilede is not just a philanthropist; he’s an elder brother to me,” he remarked, celebrating the visionary leader who consistently uplifts others.
In his address, Apostle Dr. Olukilede described these projects as more than just charity—they’re legacy markers for generations to come. “From scholarships to hospital bill payments and now these legacy projects, we’re writing a story of impact for years ahead,” he said. The day wasn’t only about infrastructure; it was about humanity. Olukilede’s team prayed with patients, anointed them, and even covered hospital bills for a few fortunate ones.
Later, the focus shifted to Orile Agege General Hospital, where a brand-new Children’s Ward, complete with comfortable beddings and mattresses, was unveiled. Dr. Sola Pitan, the MD/CEO of the hospital, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the timely intervention. As the hospital prepares to host housemanship programs for trainee doctors, the new ward signifies a giant leap forward.
Dr. Pitan traced the hospital’s journey from its humble beginnings as a Primary Health Center in 1982 to becoming a full-fledged General Hospital in 1999. Under his leadership, the hospital has grown significantly, with the expansion of the emergency room from 15 to 30 beds, the addition of four new theatres, and enhanced physiotherapy facilities.
For the Heal the World Foundation and Apostle Tola Olukilede Foundation, these projects are more than bricks and mortar—they’re symbols of compassion, resilience, and the enduring belief that everyone deserves access to quality care and hope for a better tomorrow.
