Lions International District 404B3 Nigeria has pledged to feed 5,000 people in the 2024/2025 Lions Service Year to tackle the issue of acute hunger in the country.
This announcement was made on Thursday by the District Governor, Lion (Dr) Ibrahim ‘Jide Bello, as part of his initiatives for the upcoming service year.
To address hunger, Dr. Bello stated, “We will prioritize the construction of a ‘Food Court’ to provide nutritious meals to those in need, ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry. We aim to reach 5,000 people.”
In addition to this, the club will expand its community service to address childhood cancer. Dr. Bello remarked, “Childhood cancer is a critical issue that demands our attention. We will enhance our efforts to support children and their families affected by cancer through medical assistance, awareness campaigns, and emotional support.”
Dr. Bello also highlighted the club’s plan to distribute 3,000 eyeglasses to individuals suffering from vision impairment. “Clear vision is essential for a better quality of life. We will focus on distributing eyeglasses across our district to those who cannot afford them, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to see the world. Our target is to build on last year’s efforts with an additional 3,000 eyeglasses,” he said.
To fund these projects, Dr. Bello invited members and other well-meaning Nigerians to a public presentation and fundraising luncheon aiming to raise NGN200M, scheduled for Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at Anchor Events Center, Agidingbi Road, Ikeja, Lagos.
“We are reminded that every act of kindness and compassion leaves a lasting impression. We are called to breathe life into our service, staying proactive, bringing our vision to life, and focusing on positive outcomes,” he stated.
Dr. Bello assured Lions and Lionesses present that he would work tirelessly to extend the club’s services to more communities in need. He emphasized the importance of recruiting new members, particularly the youth and senior citizens, while retaining current members through engaging and impactful initiatives.
He reiterated the club’s commitment to building strong corporate partnerships with local and international organizations to amplify its resources and extend its reach. He also said the club will provide training and development opportunities to ensure members are equipped to lead with confidence and competence.
