Lions International District 404B2 plans to build food bank in Lagos

Lions International District 404B2 has revealed plans to build a food bank in Lagos as part of its efforts to alleviate food scarcity and severe hunger in the region. This initiative is part of their community service projects, aligning with their core focus areas.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Lagos by District Governor, Lion Tolulope Senbanjo, during his inauguration, where he took over leadership from the outgoing District Governor, Lion Professor Dayo Emmanuel Fagbohun, for the 2023/2024 Lions service year.
Lion Senbanjo, who has commenced his term as the 11th District Governor for the 2024/2025 service year, stated that the food bank project would be officially presented at the fundraising luncheon for community projects on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, at the Jewel Aieda Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos. He urged Lions and supporters to participate through ticket purchases, advertisements, goodwill messages, and sponsorships. He emphasized, “Join me as we embark on this journey together, putting ‘Service First’ and creating a lasting impact in our communities.”
Discussing additional projects for the service year, the District Governor mentioned that leadership training sessions would be organized for members to keep them updated on the latest developments in humanitarian services. He also announced that N5 million had been allocated for the 2024/2025 service year to support members with legitimate businesses, with each individual receiving up to N500,000 as a grant.
Lion Senbanjo encouraged all Lions Clubs under the district to align their services with the district’s vision and the global body’s goals.
The immediate past District Governor, while handing over, expressed gratitude to members for their support and contributions to the club’s growth and humanitarian efforts. He urged continued support for the new District Governor from all Lions leaders and members.
This year’s theme, “Service First, Creating a Lasting Impact,” reflects the club’s dedication to making a significant difference in communities through committed service.
District 404B2 has a history of notable projects in Nigeria, including the construction of a modern dialysis and kidney treatment center at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba, Lagos State; a diabetes screening and treatment center at Alimosho General Hospital in Igando, Lagos State; the largest motherless babies home in the country in Lekki; and a cancer screening and treatment center at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
Lionism was introduced to Nigeria through the efforts of Lion Rene Loiuseau, who established the first Lion Club in the country in 1963. This led to the chartering of the Lagos Lions Club on December 21, 1964. From its modest beginning with 24 members in one club, now known as the Lagos Doyen Lions Club, there are currently about 9,666 members in 400 clubs across Nigeria.
