Sabi Chef is gearing up for its final contest on December 8, 2023, marking the culmination of a street food cooking competition. The grand finale is set to take place at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos. Following the official announcement in an early November media conference, Sabi Chef initiated a comprehensive campaign in major Lagos markets to raise awareness among residents, traders, chefs, and vendors about the upcoming event.
The street activation commenced at Tejuosho market in Yaba, where Sabi Chef ambassadors engaged with individuals, shop by shop and street by street, recruiting potential participants for the cooking competition and food festival. The grand finale promises an array of attractions, including music, dancing competitions, games, food tastings, and family-oriented festivities.
Throughout the week-long street sensitization activities, Sabi Chef extended its reach to various markets and locations in Lagos, such as Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Ogba, and Oshodi. Fans of the show were rewarded with cash and other prizes for their involvement in dance-offs, quizzes, and other recreational activities.
The lively street activation event drew significant crowds at each location, underscoring the swift embrace of the competition by the community. Reflecting on the successful street activation, Uche Nnadozie, the Editor-in-chief of Newspread.ng, the online publication organizing Sabi Chef, expressed satisfaction with the incident-free week-long outreach.
“We are immensely proud of our direct engagement with the streets for a show designed for the street. The absence of any incidents highlights the safety of our city and the trust the streets place in us to organize an event for them,” he remarked. “The overwhelming turnout underscores the enthusiasm of both the young and old to participate and seize the opportunity to shine.”
Adding to the sentiments, Shola Ewuola, the CEO of Newspread.ng’s parent company and Chairman of NT News Ltd, spoke during the Ikorodu event. “I am pleased with the positive reception from our people.
