Renowned media specialist and strategic communications professional, Jerry Sawyerr, has assumed the role of Chief Marketing Officer at The Alternative Bank.
Sawyerr brings with him an extensive background of more than two decades in various domains, including Technology, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Advocacy, Government Relations, Social Impact, Media Relations, and Marketing. Prior to his recent appointment, Sawyerr held the position of General Manager at Redwood Consulting. Preceding this role, he steered the growth of Weber Shandwick in Nigeria as the Country Director. During his tenure as Country Manager, he established a robust network spanning West and East Africa, significantly expanding the company’s operations.
Sawyerr also collaborated closely with Nigeria’s former Minister for Agriculture, Akinwunmi Adesina, providing communication and media relations support for the ministry’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA). He effectively positioned both Nigeria’s agricultural sector and the Minister’s leadership on the global stage. His contributions extended to the African Union’s CAAPD initiative, aimed at assisting African nations in achieving higher economic growth through agriculture-led development. Sawyerr played a pivotal role in leading high-profile campaigns for esteemed organizations such as UNICEF, the United Nations Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
In Nigeria, he provided strategic guidance for entities including Save the Children, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Rockefeller Foundation, and African Innovation Foundation. Jerry Sawyerr is a recognized authority in media, having conducted training sessions for top-level executives hailing from companies such as Mastercard, Ericsson, Eaton, Lagos Business School (LBS), Microsoft, First Bank, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), among others.
